Downtown Alpharetta will be abuzz with the sights, sounds, tastes and smells of the first European Market on Milton Avenue Sept.22 and 23 as artists and “gatherers” come to sell their wares under the big tent.

“It’s a great group of people that truly believe in networking and helping each other,” said organizer Tina Soucie. “And it’s got that European vibe. It’s a vibe you get under a tent with the buzz you hear.”

Along with organizing the event, Soucie is a gatherer, or an artist who finds unique pieces and either refurbishes or repurposes them.

“We search high and low,” she said of gatherers. “It’s all about the hunt.”

Among the vendors will be artisans and gatherers selling jewelry, refurbished furniture and even lamps made out of different material.

One local vendor who will be at the market is Blo Vintage, created by Allison Stackpole and Lara Dolan. The team makes and markets unique jewelry made with vintage whistles.

Stackpole started collecting whistles after her mother gave one to her as a gift her freshman year of college. Since then, the collection has grown and she wanted a way to share them with others.

“I thought it would be cool to share this collection with friends and family and the world,” she said.

Stackpole works in long-term healthcare and Dolan is involved with cystic fibrosis organizations, and 5 percent of their net proceeds go toward the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Both women with Blo Vintage said they want their jewelry to bring forth messages of history, versatility for the wearer, help for cystic fibrosis research and safety should someone need to use the whistle to summon help.

The European Market on Milton Avenue will be Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
