Members of the community are invited to share their opinions and suggestions on plans for the new Alpharetta branch library.

Representatives from the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System and the design team for the new branch presented plans to the public during the Alpharetta City Council meeting Monday.

The proposed two-story building will be constructed to fit the design for Alpharetta’s new City Center. The 25,000-square-foot space will feature a children’s section and 150-seat auditorium on the lower level and the primary circulation area, a teen area, a reading gallery, a quiet room, computers and conference space on the upper floor.

The budget for the construction project includes funding for more materials to fill the shelves, said Anne Haimes, interim library director. The proposed building will be capable of holding a collection of more than 100,000 books, DVDs, CDs and audiobooks.

The proposed library plans will be posted for public review at the current Alpharetta branch library at 238 Canton Street. Library officials ask that all public comments are submitted to the library by March 25.

Construction is expected to start by late summer or early fall.
