The sophomore pitcher already has the requisite experience — on the mound and in the clubhouse — to do so. Moncus is fresh off helping the Lady Mustangs advance to the second round of the Class 5-A Georgia High School Association playoffs this season.
Ola coaches have set the bar high for Moncus, who along with fellow ace Savannah McHellon comprises the pitching rotation, in the seasons to come.
“I expect a lot out of Rya,” said Lady Mustangs coach Gidget Gue. “I look for her to continue to improve.”
With no seniors on the roster, Moncus is among the program’s talented slew of young guns returning from this season’s postseason journey.
Ola toppled Lee County in first round play before being upended by Greenbrier the ensuing round.
Players and coaches alike have since begun looking to next season.
“Our slogan next year is ‘Be prepared for each pitch,’” said Gue.
With hurlers like Moncus on the mound, opposing teams would be wise to adopt a similar mantra.
