With each and every game, Locust Grove’s Taniya Juarez’s impact on her team grows.

The sophomore is evolving into the consummate point guard, something Lady Wildcats coaches have been seeking for a long time.

“She’s just a blessing to have, gives us something we lacked in past years,” said Locust Grove coach Gregory Shook. “And, she’s a go-getter … she runs non-stop.

“She goes 100 percent all the time, pushes the other girls to keep up with her. She’s just a godsend.”

Whatever the 4 foot 11 transfer from Oklahoma lacks in stature, she makes up for in skill and intangibles. That has translated to the stat sheet.

In her role as floor general, Juarez recently produced a gem of game against Jackson: 10 assists, eight points and five steals.

“She’s taken the reins … does a good job of getting the ball to the right people,” Shook noted. “She wants to see other people score; she wants to distribute the ball around the floor and that’s what she goes out and does.”

As Juarez’s game continues to blossom and mature, look for her on-court success to tip the Lady Wildcats’ wins-loss record in their favor.
