In a season where they have posted 12 wins and gone undefeated in region play, stellar performances have been prevalent on all five lines for the Cambridge Lady Bears tennis team.

But no line has performed with the consistency of No. 2 doubles, which has been anchored by talented sophomore Alyssa McDonald and her unblemished 12-0 record.

“Alyssa is a very solid player who can play with anyone and I am always confident about a win from our second doubles team,” said Cambridge tennis coach Leigh Lynott of McDonald, who was played with a variety of partners this year.

“It is unusual to find high school players who really excel at doubles,” she continued. “But Alyssa has nice deep ground strokes and lobs, and she isn’t afraid to work her way into the net to put the ball away when the timing is right.

She also knows how to angle off her volleys to make sure that the ball doesn’t come back.”

McDonald’s second line has picked up wins this year against traditional state powers Blessed Trinity, Marist and Pope among others while leading her team into first-place in 7AAAAA and on the cusp of the state playoffs.

“I’m lucky to have experienced doubles players [like Alyssa] who love to play the net,” said Lynott.

“That is one of the differences between our team and many of the teams we play.”
