In her four years on the soccer field at Northview High School Hannah Edwards has been a mainstay in the midfield, controlling games from the center of the pitch and leading the Lady Titans on three separate runs into the state playoffs.

As this year’s Northview gears up for another playoff surge into May, head coach Jen Barr said it would be Edwards, the team’s captain, to lead them there again.

“Hannah has all the qualities of a senior captain and her leadership is just phenomenal,” said Barr, whose team is 12-1 overall this season. “She started on the 2010 and 2012 teams that played for a state championship and that experience is so valuable.”

On the field Barr described Edwards — who signed to play at the University of Georgia earlier this season — as a midfielder with tremendous athletic ability and ball skills, but more importantly a coach on the field, given her knowledge of the game.

“She is a girl that eats, breathes and sleeps soccer and has become so soccer-smart because of that,” said the Northview coach. “I’m letting her call our corner kicks and set pieces this year and that is something I’ve never done before.

“She’s the type of a player that comes around your program once every 15 or 20 years, and we’re grateful to have her.”
