Thomas started off the GHSA Class 3-A state tournament with a bang, nearly going for a double-double in the Lady Bulldogs’ opening round win over Fannin County.
She scored 11 points and was a factor on the boards, hauling in nine rebounds to boot.
“Kayla has really been playing well,” said Decatur coach Bill Roberts.
A 5-foot-8 small forward, Thomas really started to come into her own as the season progressed. Just as impressive as her play is the fact that she is only a freshman.
The Lady Bulldogs’ impressive 2012-13 run ended with a five-point loss in the GHSA Elite 8. It would not seem cliché to say that the sky is the limit for both Thomas and her team in the years to come.
Opposing players and coaches have three more seasons to try to handle and game plan for the promising frosh. Good luck to them.
