When the Alpharetta Lady Raiders basketball team needs a bucket, head coach Mike House knows exactly who to turn to.

“When the going gets tough we put the ball in Kylee Smith’s hands,” said House of Smith, a 6-foot tall shooting guard that is in her fourth year starting for the Lady Raiders. “She’s our senior leader, she is someone that the other players lean on, and as a coach I know I can lean on her abilities too.”

Smith, who signed a scholarship to play at Vanderbilt during the NCAA’s early signing period in November, is averaging 15.8 points per game and shooting a team-leading 86 percent from the charity-stripe.

Her best game of the year came during the holiday break in a Christmas tournament in Alabama. Pitted against Alabama’s fifth ranked Blount High School in the tournament semifinals Kylee dropped a season best 34 points, scoring in every way imaginable and leading her Lady Raider team to a thrilling double-overtime victory.

“She was relentless in that game,” said the Alpharetta coach of Smith’s performance in the 71-64 win. “She scored off the dribble, off the catch, hit the long range and knocked down her free throws.

“She’s one of those players that can absolutely fill it up.”
