Winners of 11 of their last 13 games, The Pace Academy Knights softball team enters this week’s 5-A tournament as one of the hottest teams in the region.

Much of that success comes courtesy of Lane Dikeman, a sophomore pitcher that dazzled through the month of September.

“Lane’s pitching has been dominate of late, and as our leadoff hitter she has done a great job of seeing a ton of pitches and getting on base,” said Pace softball coach Kris Palmerton. “She is truly a student of the game and is having a great year for us.”

At the plate, Dikeman is hitting a cool .358 with 18 runs scored and 14 runs batted in this season. But it’s her work in the circle that carried Pace to the No. 2 seed in the 5-A tournament that starts Thursday.

Dikeman is 11-4 on the season with a 3.72 earned run average and has done her best work over the last month — going 9-0 in her final nine starts of the regular season.

“She isn’t overpowering but she has a variety of pitches, can hit her spots and can work in-and-out and high-and-low,” said the Pace coach of his ace pitcher. “You don’t do anything in this sport without good pitching and Lane has been incredible for us.”
