At 18-3, Johns Creek volleyball is off to the best start in their short, but very successful, four-year history.

One of the primary reasons for that success is senior setter Sara Rogers, the quarterback of their team through three state playoff runs, over 130 wins in four years, and now a squad in the top 10 in Class AAAAAA.

“She has started on varsity since she was a freshman,” said Johns Creek volleyball coach Beth Stephens. “She is a team captain, she brings composure to the court, and her teammates have tremendous confidence in her ability to get them the ball.”

Stephens went on to say that Rogers — who is averaging eight assists per match and is drawing college interest for her talents — is the key player in the Lady Gladiators’ offensive attack.

The Johns Creek coach listed her biggest strengths as court vision, the ability to set for any teammate at any time and the calming influence that her experience brings to the team.

“She’s the player that sets the tone for each match. She is aggressive, has quick feet, can read the defense to know what to set and keeps the defense guessing,” said Stephens of her super senior.

“Without a good setter [like Sara] the offense falls apart.”
