Locust Grove pitcher Alexis Longmire is having an outstanding senior season so far not just because of statistics but due to confidence.

“I think through it all she’s gained more confidence than she’s ever had pitching and it is showing,” Locust Grove softball coach Chris Davis said. “She’s not worried about what she is going to do out there but just believing in herself. The team believes when she is pitching too.”

At press time, Longmire had an 8-0 record with a 0.41 ERA and 35 strikeouts, while the Lady Wildcats owned a 13-1 mark.

“Our good start is definitely because of pitching,” Longmire said. “I just throw strikes and let my defense back me up. Then we hit and score.”

Davis said Longmire has also walked fewer batters this season and believes she is on pace again for the Pitcher of the Year award in Region 4-AAAA.

“I really want to finish with a good ERA and batting average,” said Longmire, who would like to continue playing in college.

Before that, Longmire and the Lady Wildcats will push for the state finals in Columbus.

“We definitely want the ring this year,” Longmire said.

“We have always made it to at least the second round in the last [three] years,” Davis said. “We want to keep that streak going.”
