The Galloway freshman placed runner-up behind Landmark Christian’s Jordan Daniel at the Class A private school tournament at Crosswinds Golf Club in Savannah May 20.
Doherty and Daniel finished the 18-hole round tied with a score of 78, before Daniel clinched the low medalist title on the third playoff hole.
Doherty was also the girls’ low medalist with a score of 78 at the Class A private school sectionals in Augusta May 6 and shot a 77 to finish third at the Area 3A tournament in Locust Grove April 22.
Galloway coach Scott Pugh was impressed with Doherty’s performance as well as the composure she displayed as a freshman playing in the state tournament for the first time.
“Amanda played another round of solid golf at the state championship,” Pugh said. “It is easy to admire her long drives and her great attitude. But, as a coach, I marvel at how good her whole game is and how great she can become. As a freshman, she dealt with the playoff with great maturity. She is far beyond her years as a golfer and as a competitor.”
