Amelia Cole is used to being the field general as a midfielder for the Galloway girls’ soccer team during the spring.

So, it wasn’t a big stretch for the junior to move from her usual shooting guard position on the school’s girls’ basketball squad to point guard after the loss of regular starter Merrill Stovroff to a torn ACL in her right knee before the season.

Cole has taken well to her new position, leading the Scots in scoring with 11 points a game as well as defensively with three steals per contest.

She had a season-high 16 points in Galloway’s 47-42 overtime loss to Landmark Christian Dec. 8 as well as 15 points and six steals in a 32-28 loss to Greenforest Christian Dec. 4, 13 points in a 38-31 victory over Our Lady of Mercy Dec. 11 and 10 points in a 24-21 loss to Fellowship Christian Dec. 15.

“She has done a really good job for us,” Galloway coach Cliff Waddy said. “She still scores for us at point guard. She can shoot the ball and drive in for a layup equally well. She is also a good defensive player.”
