Before the beginning of the season, new ELCA girls’ soccer coach Joe Bryan said junior Brie Collier would be a better fit as a right defender instead of a forward and he couldn’t have been more correct.

“I just thought that she was too good of an athlete to not be on the field,” Bryan said. “We have a couple of girls up top that have been there and I just saw Brie as somebody too quick not to be on the field. And we needed somebody else in the back.”

“I just wanted to do my best and he said I had good instincts,” said Collier, who admitted to being nervous since she had no idea of her position change.

Bryan identified a moment in the 1-0 victory against Landmark on March 21 as one of Collier’s highlights of the season.

“In the first half, we were up 1-0 and there was a play when the ball was sitting in front of the net and Brie came from the opposite side and cleared it,” Bryan said. “It was tremendous but she has done that quite a bit. Her speed has been a game changer in the back.”

Collier said senior center defender Megan Lloyd has been a big help as well.

Also a member of the cross country team, Collier has a 3.5 grade-point average.
