Female Athlete of the Week-Brooke Winsness

Brooke Winsness certainly did her part in helping Milton maintain it’s dominance of Class AAAAAA girls’ lacrosse.

The senior attacker scored four goals and chipped in one assist to lead Milton to a 16-13 victory over Walton in the AAAAAA championship game May 17 to give the Lady Eagles their ninth state championship in 10 years.

Winsness helped get Milton into the title contest with two goals and three assists in the Lady Eagles’ 18-5 win over north Fulton rival Centennial in the semifinals May 14 as well as contributing one goal and three assists in a 20-5 win over West Forsyth May 10.

In Milton’s four-game state playoff run, Winsness had 10 goals, six assists and nine caused turnovers to help lead the Lady Eagles to yet another state championship.

“Brooke has been the backbone of our attack this year as the only returning and only senior starter,” Milton coach Tim Godby said. “She has shown great leadership and steady play throughout the season and really stepped up and played great in the state finals when it mattered most.”

Winsness was a second-team selection in Class AAAAAA in the GA PrepCountry All-State girls’ lacrosse team.
