“[Coach Claud Spinks] suggested that I do it and I trust him because I knew he knew what he was doing,” Hill said.
As a result of those words and hard work the entire season, Hill capped her track career at Eagle’s Landing with a first-place finish in the 800 at the GHSA Girls State Track Championships.
“I really wanted that state title,” said Hill, who ran just the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes prior to this year. “I was really happy.”
“Devonna works really hard and is mentally tough,” Spinks said.
Hill also believed her time spent running cross country with a fellow senior was influential in her success.
“I trained harder and with India [Milling] and she really helped me a lot,” Hill said.
After graduating with a 3.4 grade-point average, Hill will attend Georgia, Kennesaw State or Georgia State and plans to just run the 800. Hill is still unsure about what her major will be in college.
