Ekua Awotwi has been a big reason for the success of Atlanta International’s girls’ basketball team, which is off to its best start in the program’s history at 4-0.

The senior is the team’s second-leading scorer with 13.8 points per game and is also second on the Eagles in rebounding with 12 a contest.

Awotwi scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead AIS to a 64-46 victory over Savannah Christian Nov. 17.

She also had 15 points and 14 rebounds in a 47-31 victory over Savannah Country Day Nov. 16 and 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 60-33 win over Our Lady of Mercy Nov. 27.

“She does it all for us,” Atlanta International coach Willie Richardson said. “She can shoot. … She plays very good defense. She is a good rebounder. She’s a good all-around player — rebounds, defense. She can shoot the outside jumper and can take it to the basket.”
