Female Athlete of the Week-Julia Wright

Julia Wright definitely saved her best for last in her final high school volleyball match.

Wright’s outstanding performance was a crucial key for Holy Innocents’ as it won the Class A state championship with a victory over Hebron Christian in the finals at Marietta High School Nov. 2.

The senior setter had four blocks, two aces and nine kills to help lead the Golden Bears to the 3-1 (25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20) win in the Class A title match.

A starter on the Holy Innocents’ varsity for three years, Wright recorded 32 aces and 167 kills and led the team with 80 blocks to assist the Golden Bears in their drive to their first state championship in the program’s history.

“She had the match of her career in the state championships,” Holy Innocents’ coach Taylor Noland said. “Julia has played for me for three years and she will be hard to replace.”

In addition to volleyball, Wright is also a varsity basketball cheerleader and is a member of the girls’ soccer team at Holy Innocents.’
