After spending so much time playing soccer on the West Georgia campus, Locust Grove senior Katie Miklausich decided to officially join the women’s soccer team and sign her letter of intent last Friday.

“I’ve pretty much grown up there,” said Miklausich, the Lady Wildcats’ goalkeeper. “I went to the Ralph Lundy camps every summer. I fell in love with the campus. I watched them build new building after new building.”

“West Georgia is gaining a huge asset,” Locust Grove coach Barbara Rape said. “It’s going to be a loss for us next year. Katie pulls it together. She’s smart, fast and assertive. They are going to be lucky to have her.”

Miklausich, who has a 3.8 grade-point average, plans to major in psychology with a focus on the humanistic aspect of the subject.

“They have one of the few humanistic psychology programs in the southeast,” she said.

Miklausich also just lives for being in front of the net.

“You’re under a lot of pressure all the time and that is where I function the best,” she said. “It’s constantly keeping an eye on where everybody is all of the time.

“It’s quick reaction and it really makes you think,” Miklausich said. “It’s a leading role on the team because if you don’t have a vocal goalkeeper then your team is going to suffer.”
