After a memorable season on the softball diamond, Druid Hills girls’ basketball coach Michael House believes junior Kayla Cato can be just as impactful on the basketball court.

“Kayla is a special kid,” House said. “She was a First Team All-Region softball player. Now, we’re trying to get her to believe in her potential on the basketball court.”

“She has a long wingspan with a great vertical leap,” House said. “With her athletic ability, if she really applies herself to the game of basketball, she’s going to be a special talent.”

Cato’s talent was definitely on display in the second half against Arabia Mountain a week ago when she scored 10 of her 11 points in a 53-47 setback.

“Offensively, we looked to attack more and defensively we stuck to our principles,” House said. “We started to execute and had several stops.”

Listed at 5-foot-11, Cato was also a presence on the glass and turned away a number of Lady Rams’ shots in the paint.

“Her height and her length are big time when we get her in the middle of the floor,” House said.

Earlier this year for the softball team, Cato had a .510 batting average with 24 RBI and three home runs. She also had 26 hits, which was eighth best in the county.
