Leah Hardeman packs plenty of punch in her role as outside hitter for St. Pius X.

The senior co-captain and Coastal Carolina commitment certainly proved that at the Rocky Top Classic in Karns, Tenn., Sept. 20 and 21, where she led the Lady Lions to the championship and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Hardeman also showed her power in St. Pius’ win over then-No. 3-ranked Class AAAAAA Johns Creek with 28 kills to break the school single-match record of 25. She set the new mark in only three sets, while the previous standard was achieved in five.

Going into the Lady Lions match with Marist last Thursday, Hardeman had 349 kills, 19 aces, 45 blocks and 254 digs for the season.

“She looks thin as a rail and you think she’s going to have no power at all,” St. Pius coach John Frederick said. “But she’s absolutely a ball of fire and she can hit the tar out of the ball and yet she has enough of a head on her where she can change it up, tip to spots, roll shots and different things. She’s a real heady player who understands the game and she’s constantly working hard on the court to get to the ball to make plays.”
