The junior appears ready to make another serious run at state championships in 2014 after recording state qualifying times in five events.
Best has earned state individual berths in the 200 freestyle (1 minute, 54.40 seconds), the 50 freestyle (25.36 seconds), the 100 butterfly (1:00.53), the 100 freestyle (54.24 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.79) as well as qualifying as part of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.
She has also set new school records in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, the same times that qualified her for the state meet.
“She’s really picked up where she was a year ago,” Riverwood community coach Brent Pease said. “She can do anything. She’s got such a tough, competitive spirit and she knows what the girls around her are doing. She’s a competitor.”
Best also competes for the Marietta Stingrays club team.
