Madeline Pearce has played a big role in establishing the North Atlanta girls’ cross country team on the state level.

The sophomore finished third with a time of 20 minutes, 14 seconds to lead the Lady Warriors to a third-place finish in the team standings at the Region 6AAAA meet in Decatur and a spot in the Class AAAAA race at the state meet in Carrollton Saturday.

Pearce also led North Atlanta to the team championship at the Atlanta Public Schools meet at Grant Park Oct. 16, winning the girls’ individual race at 21:20.

She has also recorded impressive performances at some major cross country meets in the state this season, finishing fourth with a time of 19:40 at the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational in Conyers Sept. 28, running 20:05 to finish 15th at the Furman Classic in Greenville, S.C., Sept. 14 and was seventh (20:07) at the Nike Panther Invitational in Fayetteville Sept. 7.

Also a member of the North Atlanta track and swim teams, Pearce has made her mark in triathlon as well. She is ranked among the top 40 junior triathletes in the nation and is a member of the Southeast High Performance USA Junior Triathlon Team that won the 2013 USAT National Championship.

“She has provided good leadership for the team and she is a very hard worker,” North Atlanta community coach George Sanderlin said. “She is also a ranked triathlete, so she’s a heck of an athlete.”
