“We felt like we could get some other kids some work and get them some confidence going into the playoffs,” Snipes said.
With a spot in the Class AAA playoffs at stake, Allen led the Lady Lions with 18 points, including four 3-pointers, in a 56-12 victory of the opening round of the Region 6-AAA tournament.
“She’s been shooting the ball well since we got back to action in January,” Snipes said. “That has been a pleasant surprise because we have been looking for that third scorer. We hope she is getting in a groove at the right time.”
The junior Allen made three of her four 3-pointers in the first half to help St. Pius build a 25-9 lead at the break.
“I’ve been working on my shot a lot, said Allen, who shot 50 percent from beyond the arc and had three steals.
On Jan. 24 in a 70-6 win over the Lady Indians, Allen also drilled four 3-pointers and had a game-high 17 points.
“I’m ready for state,” said Allen, who helped the Lady Golden Lions capture the 2012-13 state title.
