Reshaundra Owens re-emerged as a key player for the Holy Innocents’ girls’ basketball team last year after missing the previous season with a torn ACL in her left knee.

The senior forward, who averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds a game to help lead the Lady Bears to the Class A state tournament last season, has picked up where she left off in 2010-11.

Owens is the second leading scorer on the team with 10 points a game and is also second on the club in rebounds with 4.8 per contest as she helped lead Holy Innocents’ to a 4-0 start.

She stepped to the forefront in the Lady Bears’ 63-57 victory over St. Francis Nov. 16, scoring 19 points and grabbing 18 rebounds.

Her other big performance so far was a 16-point showing in the team’s 60-45 win season-opening win over crosstown rival Riverwood Nov. 13. “She had a very good year last year and she worked very hard during the offseason to get better,” Holy Innocents’ coach Tony Watkins said.

Owens’ performance on the court has attracted the attention of colleges, with North Georgia and Rhodes College of Memphis, Tenn., among those expressing interest.
