The Westminster senior standout and Ohio State signee added to her title collection to finish her outstanding high school career at the state girls’ track and field meet in Albany May 9 through 11.
Fletcher repeated as champion in both the 800-meter run — with a season-best time of 2 minutes, 16.56 seconds — and the 1,600 run (5:16.59) to lead the Wildcats to the Class AA team title.
“She was absolutely crucial for us,” Westminster coach Geoffrey Sudderth said. “She scored 20.5 points, obviously 10 each for the two wins and a half a point in the [1,600-meter relay, where Westminster finished seventh] she participated in. That’s a big chunk of the 72 points we scored. So, without her, being there and leading the way, there’s no way we would have been in position to win that meet. She did an outstanding job.”
Fletcher left her mark on Westminster with seven state track and field championships and three cross country titles during her four-year career.
She won the state crown in the 1,600 the last three years in a row and the 800 for two consecutive years as well as the 3,200 in 2010 and ’11. She also won the AA cross country girls’ individual title from 2009 to ’11.
