Stephanie Krouskos wants her coach, Sergio Stadler, to leave Marist as a champion as well.

“Our head coach, who has coached here for many years, this is his last year coaching since he is retiring so we really want to go out with a state championship for him and ourselves,” the senior forward said. “I think that would be really cool.”

After her final season as a member of the Marist girls’ soccer team, Krouskos will continue to be a student-athlete at the University of Virginia.

“It was a decision based off of what I thought would be best for me academically and athletically,” Krouskos said. “I tried to take both aspects into account, and out of all the schools that recruited me, UVA was probably the highest ranked for soccer and the best academically. So it was kind of a win-win situation.”

Krouskos, who has a 3.9 grade-point average, also considered attending Alabama.

“The idea of being able to use my talents to represent a university is extremely cool and will be a great experience,” Krouskos said.

If the Lady War Eagles capture the state title this season, they will be back-to-back champions for the third time in school history.

“The state championship is the end goal,” Krouskos said. “Last year, we had an undefeated season and that would be nice again.”
