“I was excited but I know I have to stay humble,” said Florence, who will play for the South team. “I still got my season to play and I will worry about that after the season.”
This will also be the senior point guard’s first time competing in an all-star game which she realizes is something special.
“It’s big-time basketball,” Florence said. “I know that I can play with the D-I players and anybody in Georgia.”
Recently as a result of her dependable ball handling and consistent shooting, Florence helped the Lady Cardinals capture the Region 4-AAAA Championship last Saturday at Woodland.
Florence scored 20 points, including four 3-pointers in the second round against Upson-Lee, and then followed that performance with 23 points against Griffin in the next round.
“She’s been aggressive,” said Jonesboro girls’ coach Lamar Harris after the win against Griffin. “We ask her to take what the defense gives her and that is what she does.”
In the title game, Florence made three more 3-pointers and finished with 15 points in a 64-56 victory over Woodland.
