Former DeKalb County school board member Pam Speaks asked for her seat back on the board in an appeal letter to Gov. Nathan Deal.

The letter, dated April 7, serves as a formal petition for reinstatement. Speaks’petition is with the belief that she is “more likely than not to improve the ability of the DeKalb County School District to retain its accreditation.”

Speaks was elected in 2009 and again in 2012 to the District 8 seat on the school board under the campaign slogan “Pam Speaks for the children,” — a promise she said she intends to keep.

“As a voice of reason, I have been faithful to the Board Code of Ethics,” she wrote to Deal, adding that she has been committed to restoring fiscal stability to the district.

Speaks said she has requested proof of any infractions from the Southern Accredation of Colleges and Schools and has not yet received feedback.

She wrote that she wants the opportunity to finish the job she was elected to do in 2009 and 2012.

“I will not disappoint you or myself, but most importantly, I will not disappoint the students and citizens of DeKalb County that I promised to serve,” Speaks said in the letter.
