Fulton County Commissioner Liz Hausmann, District 3, has named former Georgia House Speaker Mark Burkhalter to the North Fulton Community Improvement District Board.

Commissioner Hausmann’s nomination was confirmed by the full Board of Commissioners at its Aug. 15 meeting.

“I look forward to working with Speaker Burkhalter as we continue to make north Fulton a vibrant place for businesses and residents. He has a sterling record in public service and the North Fulton community will benefit from his strong leadership in this role,” said Commissioner Hausmann.

“It is an honor to be selected to the Board of an organization which has such a positive and productive mission enhancing the North Fulton community. I look forward to working with the other members of the North Fulton CID in delivering meaningful improvements to our community, making it even more the envy of the Metro area,” said Burkhalter.

Burkhalter served in the Georgia General Assembly for 18 years, representing the north Fulton community. He served as Speaker of the House and Speaker Pro Tempore, a position to which he was elected with the bipartisan support of his colleagues. He left office as Speaker Emeritus. From 2003-2004, Burkhalter served as Administration floor leader for Governor Sonny Perdue.

The former Speaker currently serves as a Senior Strategic Advisor and Independent Consultant with McKenna Long & Aldridge in Atlanta.

An alumnus of the University of Georgia, his community service roles include work as a board member of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce, as a Trustee of the Fulton County Republican Party Foundation, as Chairman of the Johns Creek Foundation, and as President of the Optimist Club.

In his role as a Board member with the North Fulton Community Improvement District, Burkhalter will help guide the organization’s involvement in numerous infrastructure improvement initiatives.

The North Fulton CID is a self-taxing district that spans from Mansell Road north to McGinnis Ferry Road.

It was established in 2003 by business leaders in the North Fulton community who were committed to enhancing infrastructure and partnering with other public and private entities to bring about community improvements.

Since its inception, the North Fulton CID has invested over $13 million directly in the north Fulton community.
