Mayor Eva Galambos speaks at the annual State of the City address.
In a news release, the city of Sandy Springs Tuesday announced Mayor Eva Galambos will take a brief absence from her duties as mayor while she recuperates from abdominal surgery. The procedure was performed April 23, and doctors expect a full recovery.

Galambos is expected to take the next several weeks to rest and recuperate. District 5 City Councilman Tibby DeJulio, also the mayor pro-tem, will briefly take on the mayor’s responsibilities during her absence.

Earlier this month Galambos, 85, announced she will not run for re-election this fall. She endorsed former District 3 City Councilman Rusty Paul as the candidate to replace her. Now in her second term, Galambos has led the city since it was incorporated in 2005.
