Those appreciative of the arts will soon have another venue in downtown Alpharetta to pick up pieces for their collections.

The Sedgwick Gallery, at 61 Roswell St. in Alpharetta, will hold a three-day grand opening celebration Friday through Sunday. “We carry fine art and art that … we deem classic,” said gallery manager Ryan Sedgwick, who runs the place along with his father Scott Sedgwick, the gallery’s owner.

Half of the gallery’s collection consists of the work of 20th century masters such as Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, LeRoy Neiman and Peter Max, he said.

The gallery also features large-format oil paintings created by local and international artists, Sedgwick added.

Prices start off around $500. “For the most part [the pieces] are affordable that you can put in your home and start a collection with,” he said.

The gallery is an extension of the family’s business Classic Fundraising.

“We’ve been in the business for 25 years and we do charity art auctions all around the country,” Sedgwick said.

“We have this amazing collection of art and we’ve been living in Alpharetta forever and the lease came up on … the Skelton-Teasley House on Roswell Street and we just couldn’t pass it up.”

The historic home in which the new gallery is located is possibly the oldest home in Alpharetta, he said, and sits on perhaps the highest piece of land in the city.

The new gallery can also be used as a space for charities to hold their art auctions or for those considering an auction to come view the collection, Sedgwick said.

“Charity auctions are really what we love to do,” he said.

“We love to give back. That’s always been the focus of this company — to be part of the community and help raise money for important causes.”

Following the three-day grand opening, Sedgwick said the typical hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
