Wednesday, District 11 U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Marietta, who represents Vinings and parts of Buckhead and Sandy Springs, announced his candidacy for the Senate seat being vacated by Saxby Chambliss, R-Moultrie.

In January, Chambliss announced he was not running for re-election in 2014. The following month, District 10 U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Athens, announced he would run for Chambliss’ post. So far Broun and Gingrey are the only official candidates.

In a newsletter emailed to constituents and the media Wednesday, District 54 State Rep. Edward Lindsey, R-Atlanta, who represents Buckhead, wrote he is considering running for Gingrey’s District 11 seat next year.

“Within the two next weeks, I will make my final decision,” Lindsey wrote.
