Originally set to take place this past weekend, the Georgia High School Association Traditional Wrestling State Championships has made changes to the venues due to the inclement weather during the winter storm which hampered the training of athletes.

The event has usually been held in the Macon Coliseum with all six high school classes performing together. However, the Class 5A event has been moved to Loganville High School and will take place in Macon Friday and Saturday.

The strongest Paulding team coming into the state meet appears to be South Paulding, fresh off of a third-place finish at the Sectionals two weeks ago. Last season, the Spartans placed 13th in the team standings at the state meet, the highest of any Paulding County program.

The Spartans’ wrestlers will be led by Noah Isley, who finished in first place at the Sectional meet in the 126-pound weight class. He finished fourth in the state meet last season. The other wrestlers expected to compete this year for South Paulding include Matheus Ferreira, Patrick Lachin (113/third place in sectionals), Will Moon (120/seventh place), Josh Haney (145/seventh place), Jake McTyre (152/seventh place), Tre Foster (160/ninth place), Jacob Sledge (170, second place), Michael Farmer (195/third place) and Casey Cobb (220/third place).

North Paulding will also send a strong contingent to Loganville, led by Cole Wilkes, fresh off of a first-place finish in Sectionals in the 145-pound division. Other Wolfpack wrestlers include Dylan Parson (113/fifth place), Jake Starnes, Max King (138/fifth place), Zach Simone (160/10th place) and senior heavyweight Hunter Hartman.

Paulding County High School had four wrestlers qualify for the state meet, led by 220-pound sectional winner Thomas Sieh, who placed fifth in the state last season, along with junior Brandon Ballard in the heavyweight division. The other Patriot grapplers are Brennan Voyles (145/10th place), Mickel Adams (195/third place).

East Paulding will send 182-pound Sectional winner Jaire Mondesir along with Michael Nixon (152/eighth place) and Josh Slater (170/fourth place) to Loganville while Hiram’s wrestlers will be Janzen Bryant (220/10th place) and Spencer Kelly.
