Hapeville Service League members will show off some stylish fall outfits on the catwalk when they host an annual fashion show to benefit the Frosty Smith Scholarship Fund, on Oct. 16 starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Hoyt Smith Recreation Center.

Member Shurleen Dorough said residents should come out and be a part of the event to show “community togetherness.”

“This is a worthy cause that’s been going on for many years in our city and we generally have over 300 people attending and participating,” she said.

The scholarship has been awarded for about 50 years to outstanding Hapeville high school seniors preparing to go to college.

The $2,000 college scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, character and financial need and will be sent to the college of the recipient’s choice.

Dorough said the league is involved in choosing the student who receives the scholarship and she said her niece Jo Hodges was once a recipient of the award.

“Students can fill out an application online or pick up one of the applications we distribute to various schools in Hapeville,” she said.

Dorough’s daughter, event organizer Heather Glantz, said Belk department store will be providing the wardrobe for the show. She also said the league’s history and mission is that of giving back to the community.

“The scholarship goes to a student in need, but the league also volunteers with seniors in the community,” Glantz said.

The league has a 64-year-long history within the city and the annual fashion show is one of the organization’s most popular events.

“There will be about 20 models of all ages and we hope to have a big turn-out of people for the show,” said Glantz.

Tickets for the event cost $10 and include the show, entry for door prizes and a lunch homemade by members of the league.

Tickets can purchased at the door the day of or prior to the event through any league member.
