Hembree Springs Elementary School last week hosted State Superintendent John Barge and other special guests for a ceremony celebrating its 2012 Georgia School of Excellence award.

Joining Dr. Barge was Hembree Springs Elementary Principal Kali Raju, Fulton Superintendent Robert Avossa, School Board President Linda Schultz and other district, business and community leaders.

“I’m proud of what your school has accomplished,” Superintendent Avossa said to the crowd of 100+ young students who assembled for the celebration. “You’ve worked hard and it’s paid off. You should be very proud of yourself and your teachers.”

Announced earlier this year, Hembree Springs received the Georgia School of Excellence award for its outstanding educational programs. Schools are honored in two categories: “Highest Performance” (highest performing schools on the College and Career-Ready Performance Index) and “Highest Progress” (schools making the greatest gains on the College and Career-Ready Performance Index).

Hembree Springs was recognized in the Highest Performance category. In order to achieve this designation, the school had to earn a CCRPI score greater than 90 and not be identified as a Priority, Focus, or Alert school. Hembree Springs earned a CCRPI score of 100.3.
