The Heritage Sandy Springs Museum last week announced the 2014 Turtle Tours program, an educational series for preschoolers ages 2 to 5.

Through stories, hands-on exhibits, songs and crafts, museum mascots Sandy the Chipmunk and Spring the Turtle will introduce preschoolers to history. Based on the Smithsonian Institution’s early enrichment program, Turtle Tours are held one Saturday each month.

Programs begin at 11 a.m. and run for about 45 minutes. Reservations are not required. The program is free, but donations are encouraged. Turtle Tours are scheduled for the following Saturdays in 2014:

o Jan. 11: What is Spring’s favorite color?

o Feb. 8: Sandy’s Cool Tools

o March 8: Feeding our Feathery Friends

o April 12: Flower Power

o May 10: Sandy and Spring Learn to Help

o June 14: Counting with Sandy & Spring

o July 12: Rock out with Rocks

o Aug. 9: Following Sandy’s Treasure Map

o Sept. 13: Spring Spies the Letter            ?

o Oct. 11: Learning about our Five Senses

o Nov. 8: Apple Picking with Sandy and Spring

o Dec. 13: Sandy and Spring Celebrate the Season

Through the Turtle Tours program, hundreds of young learners are introduced to area history and the museum each year.

“Studies prove that exposing young children to libraries and museums create lifelong learners, said Kimberly Brigance, Heritage’s director of programs and historic resources. “The Heritage Sandy Springs Museum is a trusted, welcoming place where children make discoveries, expand knowledge and connect their natural curiosity to the wider world.”

The museum is located at 6075 Sandy Springs Circle. Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated lots.
