Thousands are expected to gather at Chattahoochee High School on Sunday for the sixth annual Taste of Johns Creek. The affair will offer attendees the opportunity to sample dishes from local restaurants while raising money for the football and cheerleading programs at the school.

“This is the single largest fundraising event we do for the entire football program,” said Coach Mike Owens.

He said most people do not realize that most of the money collected at the gate during home football games does not go directly to the football program but to the overall sports department at the school. The football program holds its own fundraisers, like the Taste of Johns Creek, to pay for uniforms, helmets, shoulder pads and other needed equipment and fees, Owens said.

Event co-chair Rosalyn Garrett said a portion of the proceeds will also go to North Fulton Community Charities for its food pantry.

Event co-chair Jan Hansen said more than 4,000 attendees came out to last year’s fundraiser, and she expects even more this year. The event will take on a fall festival vibe, she said, as the date was moved from August to October this year to accommodate better weather.

Hansen said between 25 and 30 restaurants will be featured, up from about 20 last year. Restaurants will be recognized with awards for best appetizer, best entrée, best dessert, best food presentation and best decorated tent.

“[The event] showcases them as well as helping us for a good cause,” she said.

When attendees enter the gates, they will receive coupon books to present to each restaurant’s booth for a sample. There will be wildcard coupons for tasters to go back for a second helping.

In addition to the food, there will be music, children’s activities, a dunk tank and a special drawing for a golf excursion.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate. Admission is free for children ages 4 and under. Tickets can be purchased from any varsity or junior varsity football player, cheerleader or trainer. Interested attendees can also email ticket requests to TasteofJohnsCreek@gmail.com or pick up tickets from Dal Cuore Restaurant at 2100 Ray Moss Connector in Johns Creek.

Free parking will be available at the high school and Taylor Road Middle School. Shuttles will be available if needed.
