Johns Creek Post 1 Councilman Randall Johnson’s seat on city council is being challenged by lifelong resident Leonard Zaprowski.

Johnson, who has served on the council since the city’s incorporation, said the council’s track record shows why voters should re-elect him.

“We’ve improved a dozen intersections,” he said. “We have miles and miles of sidewalks that we’ve added. We’ve done a lot of paving in the city. We have completed many beautification projects. We’ve added amenities to our parks.”

Johnson said he would like to continue that progress in the next four years and accelerate it even further by using the anticipated $1.8 million in local option sales tax revenue the city is slated to receive for paving and parks projects.

In the midst of an investigation into the actions and conduct of Mayor Mike Bodker, Johnson said he is also running to fight for ethical government and ensure all elected officials follow the city charter and the law.

“[Another] reason is to provide stability on the council during this turbulent time,” he said. “I think it’s very important that there is stability on the council at this time.”

Johnson’s opposing candidate said he chose to run because of the infighting seen among city council members in the past year.

“This constant internal strife hurts the image of our beautiful city,” Zaprowski said. “Not only do these very public disagreements hurt our chances of attracting new business into our community, but it also hurts the morale of our citizens. We need to get our city working efficiently with each other and with our neighboring cities.”

He said if elected his focuses for the city will include responding to the needs of business owners to make sure they remain in Johns Creek and prosper. He also plans to make sure tax dollars are spent wisely and taxes are never raised.

Zaprowski, a local chiropractor with his own practice, said the leadership positions he has taken on as a business owner and with local community organizations make him a qualified candidate to serve on council. He is currently a member of the Johns Creek Board of Zoning Appeals and said that has given him a firsthand view of the inner workings of the city government.
