Kennesaw State University is gearing up for the establishment of its first football team, and sees Paulding as one of its top recruiting areas, said head coach Brian Bohannon.

Bohannon spoke to members of the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce last week at its Cobb EMC Power Breakfast.

“When I got involved there were three counties ultra important to the success for KSU football — that’s Paulding County, Cobb County and Cherokee County,” he said.

University officials introduced Bohannon as the school’s first football coach March 26.

This will be Bohannon’s first head coaching job after coaching a variety of positions for Georgia Tech, the U.S. Naval Academy, Georgia Southern University, Gardner Webb University and University of West Georgia.

He said he also plans to recruit from all over the state.

“Our plan is to hit 450 schools,” Bohannon said.

The coaches have been to between 90 to 95 percent of the schools, he said.

One of his recent hires is Tim Glanton, the only head football coach South Paulding High School has had to date.

“I hit a home run [by hiring Glanton],” Bohannon said. “He is a great person, he has high character, he is a great football coach and the kids love and respect him.”

Glanton has been hired to coach running backs and receivers.

Bohannon told attendees about the schedule they have for creating the team. In February 2014 the team will have its first recruited class, and plan to hold open tryouts in the spring of 2014. The team will practice in the fall of 2014 then recruit again in the spring of 2015. Fall of 2015 will be the first year the team plays with a class of freshmen and redshirt freshmen.

He said he wants to create the culture of KSU football, and his philosophy is “faith, family and football.”
