EDITOR:

I enjoyed reading Thornton Kennedy’s Aug. 21 article (“Peachtree Battle building was kindergarten, sales office”) about the small white building at the intersection of Peachtree Battle [Avenue] and Peachtree [Road] that we fondly call “The Lodge.” Mr. Kennedy has such a great way of giving readers the history of Buckhead.

I do want to point out that the lodge was and is an actively used part of the E. Rivers [Elementary School] campus. The Girl Scouts have spent many afternoons meeting and working on the grounds. The E. Rivers Education Foundation was created there and the board meets to figure out how we will raise the funds to get teachers much-needed resources. Matt Rogers, the E. Rivers principal, spent countless hours and placed hundreds of sticky notes all over the walls planning his strategy for the upcoming year, as well as hosting his monthly “Chat with Matt” meetings for parents. It is a place that we all love and where lots of good things have happened.

Today the lodge is being used as the on-site office for Parrish Construction as they rebuild Rivers. Parrish has already invested in upgrading the cottage’s electrical and heating/air. Rogers will be working with the general contractor and the district to see what sort of improvements we could do to the cottage as we rebuild Rivers.
