Thank you for bringing up the Arden [Road]/Northside [Drive intersection problems (“Buckhead intersection concerns parents, residents,” Oct. 2).
I think another key factor in the problem is that it is nearly impossible to see oncoming traffic coming over the hill, especially for drivers coming south. (Try it yourself!) If you were to research it, you might find that there have been a great many accidents (some fatal) involving left-turners from Northside onto Arden who do not realize it is necessary to drive over the hill, nearly past the intersection, before turning.
The elimination of through traffic in the center lane has made it a bit better, but it is still dangerous.
If drivers (turning or going straight) cannot see oncoming cars on the hill until the last moment, how could they see a child?
If the revamp does not address this issue, by shaving down the roadway in the middle of the intersection, it will be only a partial solution. Please keep working on this!
