Local high schools had mixed results in the state’s 2013 SAT scores, which were released Thursday by the College Board and the Georgia Department of Education.

While Sandy Springs’ North Springs and Riverwood each had an average score higher than the state’s, Buckhead’s North Atlanta and Smyrna’s Campbell High, which serves Vinings residents, registered below the Georgia average.

Seventy-five percent of Georgia’s 2013 senior class took the SAT, more than 72,000 students, compared to the national participation rate of 43 percent. Georgia has the ninth highest participation rate in the nation.

The state average of 1,452 was 46 points lower than the national average. In 2013 the state’s average SAT score went up seven points while the nation lost ground on the test. A perfect score is 2400.

“While we didn’t see the same gains this year that we did in 2012, I am proud that our students held their ground on the SAT,” State School Superintendent John Barge said in a statement. “We expect to see even better scores in the coming years as students become more engaged in their high school classes under our Career Pathways/Clusters initiative.”

Locally, Fulton County Schools had a district-wide score of 1567, well above the state average. In Sandy Springs, Riverwood led the way with an average of 1557, and North Springs averaged 1546.

In Buckhead, Atlanta Public Schools had an average of only 1335, but North Atlanta students were nearly 100 above their district average with a score of 1441.

Cobb County Schools had an average of 1515, and Campbell scored below its district average with a 1405.
