The Westminster and Lovett girls are set to battle for a state finals berth in AA, while the Pace girls look for a spot in the Class A championship game as the state soccer playoffs enter its semifinal stage.

All girls’ semifinal games are scheduled for Wednesday, with Lovett hosting Westminster in the latest clash between the Buckhead archrivals and Pace going on the road to take on Our Lady of Mercy.

It will be the second year in a row that Westminster and Lovett will square off in the AA semifinals, with the Wildcats defeating the Lions 5-0 in 2013.

Like last season, the AA final four is an all-Region 6AA affair – with Greater Atlanta Christian hosting Wesleyan in the other semifinal contest.

Westminster advanced to the semifinals with a 10-0 second-round victory over Calhoun last Wednesday and another 10-0 win over Lamar County in the quarterfinals last Saturday.

Lovett defeated Calhoun 5-1 in its second-round game last Wednesday and beat St. Vincents 2-1 last Saturday.

It’s also the third game of the season between Lovett (16-4), the second-ranked team in the Eurosport AA poll and defending AA champion Westminster (10-6-3) – the No. 3-ranked team in AA.

The two teams split the first two matchups, with Lovett winning the first game 2-1 April 2 and Westminster taking the second contest 1-0 April 11.

The winner will face either GAC or Wesleyan in the AA girls’ championship game either Friday or Saturday.

Pace (12-5) defeated Walker 4-0 last Tuesday in the second round and local rival Holy Innocents’ 4-3 last Saturday to advance to its Class A semifinal game at Our Lady of Mercy.

Meanwhile, Westminster (AA) and Atlanta International (A) earned spots in the boys’ semifinals, which were scheduled for Tuesday. Results were not available at press time.

Westminster (12-4-5) defeated Calhoun 1-0 in the second round and beat Toombs County 4-0 in the quarterfinals last Friday to advance to a AA semifinal contest with 6AA rival Wesleyan.

Atlanta International (16-2-1) defeated a couple of local rivals – beating Holy Innocents’ 4-1 in the second round last Tuesday and Pace 2-1 in the quarterfinals last Friday to earn the right to take on Brookstone in the Class A semifinals.

Lovett (3-15) saw its Cinderella run end in the AA boys’ playoffs after losing to Thomasville 4-2 in the quarterfinals last Friday. The Lions defeated Coosa 6-2 in a second-round contest last Tuesday.

Holy Spirit Prep advanced to the semifinals of both the GISA boys’ and girls’ state playoffs.

Both squads fell just short of making it to the finals, however, as they both lost to Stratford – the boys’ 2-0 and the girls’ 4-1.

The Holy Spirit Prep boys defeated Young Americans Christian 3-1 in the first round and Brookwood 2-0 in the quarterfinals.
