Not long after the clock struck 8 this morning during National Signing Day, Lovejoy football players confirmed their previous commitments of where they will put on the pads next year.

The biggest surprise of the event was tight end Arshad Jackson choosing Mississippi over Florida State. Along with some other highly-talented athletes, Jackson will also be a teammate of Grayson's Robert Nkemdiche, the nation's No. 1 player.

The rest of Jackson's teammates signed where expected.

Running back Travis Custis inked his scholarship to Georgia Tech. After deciding not to go to Georgia Tech, Ju'Michael Ramos made his decision official to attend NC State.

Quarterback Alejandro Bennifield signed with Tennessee-Chattanooga. Defensive lineman/linebacker Nathaniel Norwood and defensive back Tyrell Brown both signed to Appalachian State.

Defensive end Zane Fields confirmed his decision to attend South Carolina State and offensive lineman Montell Robinson-Beasley did likewise but to St. Augustine.

Defensive back El Malik Roberson-El signed with Reinhardt, offensive lineman Malcolm Johnson signed with Alabama A&M and defensive lineman Michael Davis agreed to attend Clark-Atlanta.

"We're excited about all of these kids," Lovejoy football coach Al Hughes said. "They've had a great career. Their three-year record was 37-4 and that ain't a very bad record for three years. They've done a great job and it has really been good for us."

In other sports, Chastity Carter signed a scholarship to play softball at Claflin and Damik Bridges decided to compete in soccer at Grambling.
