After playing the shooting guard position in his first season at Holy Innocents’ last year, Darryl Stewart moved to the point guard spot for the 2013-14 campaign.

The 6-foot-1 senior hasn’t missed a beat in his new position, averaging 14 points and five assists per game to help lead the Golden Bears to a 17-2 record as of last Friday.

Stewart scored a season-high 24 points to lead Holy Innocents’ to a 64-56 victory over Pace Jan. 24, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the last two minutes of the game to help the Bears come from behind.

He also had 21 points and six assists to pace Holy Innocents’ to a 66-65 win over Riverwood Nov. 19 and shone in the Monticello Banking Company Holiday Classic in Monticello, Ky. — scoring 14 points in an 84-61 victory over Shelby Valley (Ky.) Dec. 27 and 15 in a 72-46 win over Clinton (Tenn.) Dec. 28.

“Darryl is a [NCAA Division I] talent, no question about it,” Holy Innocents’ coach Terry Kelly said. “Point guard is where he is going to play at the next level.”
