Corey Slaughter will go down as a leader on a 2012 Stockbridge team that turned things around for the program.

The senior was a key contributor — intangibles and on-field production — for a Tigers team that finished 12-2, claimed the Region 4-AAAA crown en route to reeling off 11 consecutive wins and reaching the Elite 8 of the GHSA playoffs.

It’s hard to imagine that Stockbridge was 2-8 only a few seasons ago.

Slaughter’s graduating class is now set to depart the prep level and embark on their next challenges — next level gridiron, academic and the like — while leaving the program in terrific shape.

It’s up to their successors to prove the Tigers have staying power next season and in the years to come.

For now, the Stockbridge faithful — players, coaches and alumni — can bask in this season of turnaround orchestrated in large part by a group of seniors led by Slaughter and others.
