In what has been a rebuilding year for North Atlanta, Amon-Ra Clay has been a bright spot.

The senior linebacker has provided a steady, veteran presence defensively for the Warriors, leading the team with 55 total tackles, 43 solo tackles, seven assists and five tackles for a loss through the first five games of the season.

Clay has made his mark on the offensive side of the ball as well, as both a pass catcher at tight end and on the offensive line at tackle.

“Ra is our top tackler and our leader on defense,” North Atlanta coach Doug Britten said. “He’s a good, experienced football player. He also plays tight end and he has seen some time at offensive tackle, so he’s a good all-around player for us.”

In his fourth year on the varsity team, Clay has taken a leadership role on a North Atlanta squad that is struggling through a 0-5 start as it tries to get back on the right track under new coach Britten — the team’s third coach in as many years.

“He leads by example,” Britten said. “He is the most experienced football player that we have on the varsity level. He gives everything he has every game and he sets a good example for the team. He’s not a vocal leader, but he leads by example and he gets the job done.”
