Judging by the results he’s produced as a competitive swimmer for Chamblee, he seems that comfortable there.
His performance in the 2013 DeKalb Swimming and Diving Championships was golden, including turning in a county-best time of 22.18 in the 50-yard freestyle.
Chalk up the senior captain’s success to a set of skills and intangibles his coaches rave about.
“Alex has matured over the years and has dedicated himself to getting better,” said Chamblee coach Wesley Graham. “He also developed a team mentality doing whatever it takes to help the team.
“If I need him to swim [individual medley] he volunteers; if I need him to swim the 50 free he swims it and wins.”
Graham likens Kemenov’s development to a “Japanese Shokunin honing his knife before dinner service.”
Add living up to his responsibility as a team captain to Kemenov’s growing prep resume.
“His influence on the team this
year has been positive,” Graham noted. “He has gotten all the swimmers excited about being a part of the team and making sacrifices in what events they swim to gain the most points possible.”
