ELCA’s first three opponents haven’t had too much success trying to move the ball on the side of the field that defensive end Andrew Williams is lined up on.

“He’s playing really well, playing at a high level,” ELCA coach Jonathan Gess said. “Coaches are really game planning against him and trying to get the ball out fast or they are running away from him. If they run to him, they are double teaming him.”

These results should not be surprising since Williams, who stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 245 pounds, is on every major Division-I program’s recruiting list.

“When I go out on the field, I go with the attitude that nobody is going to stop me,” Williams said. “I just feel like it’s me and the person with the ball. I just want to make plays.”

Williams did just that on Sept. 13 in a 68-6 win over Hapeville Charter, blocking three punts and making tackles for losses.

“I just want to lead the team in everything we do,” Williams said.

As far as potential college destinations, Williams said Ole Miss, Auburn, Clemson, Notre Dame and LSU are his top five choices but in no particular order and he plans to major in business.

“My dad is a business guy and kind of instills in me not to work for anybody but have people working for you,” he said.
